What started out as a burned out yamaha 40 hp outboard engine is now an electric drive for dan's homemade pontoon boat that he keeps on a lake in nova scotia, canada. dan took what was essentially an electric lawn mower motor and had a local machine shop fabricate a coupler and welded mount to affix the motor to the drive shaft on the outboard.. This is a battery powered motor for a small rowing boat. the motor used is from an electric wheelchair which ran from 24v. the motor has a built in reduction gearbox to provide a large torque to the wheels on the wheelchair..





























I did a little "kids boat" with an electric scooter motor, inboard, direct drive through the skeg. motor was rated 250 watts, 2500 rpm on 24vdc. it did about 1/2 that on 12v. motor was about 4" diameter (10 cogs per rev = 5 windings?) and big on torque..
